BNET and New York City Office of Emergency Management to Co-Chair Executive Advisory Board for CEAS
Board Will Advise Public and Private Sector on Access during Emergencies
New York, April 26, 2010 - Business Network of Emergency Resources (BNET), a nonprofit, emergency and crisis management solutions provider, today announced it will co-chair an executive advisory board with the New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to help businesses mitigate damage and loss resulting from a disaster through the city's Corporate Emergency Access System (CEAS).
The Corporate Emergency Access Systems (CEAS) is a pre-event credentialing program that authenticates critical business employees, allowing them access to restricted areas following a disaster or serious emergency by using a secure identification card recognized by the police. Local government authorities implement CEAS after an emergency and once immediate threats to life are stabilized. The City of New York endorsed the CEAS system in 2004.
The advisory board will oversee public and private sector use of CEAS, act as program advocates, help proliferate membership and provide guidance and planning assistance regarding the overall management of CEAS in New York City. The NYPD is also a member of the board as it is instrumental to the implementation of CEAS in New York City. A cross section of private sector businesses will also be represented on the board, including the Walt Disney Company, Brookfield Financial Properties, JPMorganChase, New York University, S.L. Green and Time Warner.
"CEAS is an important piece of our City's preparedness" said NYC OEM Commissioner Joseph Bruno, "It is important the public and private sectors work together to ensure a cohesive effort is made to keep the city operational in the event of a crisis by ensuring key personnel have access to critical businesses."
"We are grateful to the City of New York for its continued commitment to the CEAS program," said Peter Picarillo, executive director of BNET. "Our goal by establishing this advisory board is to strengthen the CEAS program and spread awareness of the program."
